چکیده
We present a method of calculating the energy gap charge-neutral excitation using only ground-state calculations. report Quantum Monte Carlo calculations Γ→ Γ and → X particle-hole energies in diamond carbon. analyze finite-size effect find same 1/L decay rate as that charged excitation, where L is linear extension supercell. This slow attributed to delocalized nature supercells too small accommodate excitonic binding effects. At larger system sizes, apparent crosses over 1/L3 behavior. Bridging the gap between quantum Monte Carlo and F12-methods
Tensor product approximation of pair-correlation functions opens a new route from quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) to explicitly correlated F12 methods. Thereby one benefits from stochastic optimization techniques used in QMC to get optimal pair-correlation functions which typically recover more than 85 % of the total correlation energy. Our approach incorporates, in particular, core and core-valence ...
متن کاملAn Overview of Quantum Monte Carlo Methods
One does QMC for the same reason as one does classical simulations; there is no other method able to treat exactly the quantum many-body problem aside from the direct simulation method where electrons and ions are directly represented as particles, instead of as a “fluid” as is done in mean-field based methods. However, quantum systems are more difficult than classical systems because one does ...
متن کاملQuantum speedup of Monte Carlo methods
Monte Carlo methods use random sampling to estimate numerical quantities which are hard to compute deterministically. One important example is the use in statistical physics of rapidly mixing Markov chains to approximately compute partition functions. In this work, we describe a quantum algorithm which can accelerate Monte Carlo methods in a very general setting. The algorithm estimates the exp...
متن کاملQuantum Monte Carlo Methods in Statistical Mechanics
This paper deals with the optimization of trial states for the computation of dominant eigenvalues of operators and very large matrices. In addition to preliminary results for the energy spectrum of van der Waals clusters, we review results of the application of this method to the computation of relaxation times of independent relaxation modes at the Ising critical point in two dimensions.
متن کاملMetropolis Methods for Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations
Since its first description fifty years ago, the Metropolis Monte Carlo method has been used in a variety of different ways for the simulation of continuum quantum many-body systems. This paper will consider some of the generalizations of the Metropolis algorithm employed in quantum Monte Carlo: Variational Monte Carlo, dynamical methods for projector monte carlo (i.e. diffusion Monte Carlo wit...
